Hepworth Wakefield is an award winning contemporary art museum. Co-DB was invited to propose an idea for National Play Day. Knowing that there would be a high turnout of people as it is the school holidays we wanted an activity that children and adults of any age could join in with.
We decided to base the workshops around creating dens. Dens are one of the first architectural structures that children will encounter through making, and they can be both simple or complex in design. They are certainly unique to each maker!
We used simple everyday accessible materials for the participants to use. Everyone was given a wooden pallet as a base for their structure and various materials and fixtures such as ratchet straps, gold floor underlay, tapes, and fabrics.
Participants could come and go throughout the day creating unique and colourful structures that popped up in the outdoor grounds of the museum.
